What to Know

Critics Consensus

Gleeful in its misogyny and celebratory of bad behavior, Porky's is an intermittently funny farce that will leave audiences feeling in need of a shower.

A sequel to this ghastly comedy is already in production. What a shame. Go to Full Review

The jokes are so unremittingly cheap, so purely predictable, that "Porky's" is less shocking or amusing than boring. Go to Full Review

Because of the high quality of Decree and other Clark films, most of us expected Porky's to be a lot better than it is. Go to Full Review

Nudity, sex jokes, rivalry, and all sorts of off-color humor find their way into the film, but camaraderie, friendship, and teamwork are also relevant concepts. Go to Full Review

Ed B. @EdLee 12h One of the best high school raunch comedies. So many gags abound. Setting is Angel Beach high school in Florida. A group of high school boys take on a strip club , bar owner , across county lines , by the name of Porky. This movie contains a whole lot of sexual topics and pranks , but, also deals with bigotry in 1950s. See more Jacob B May 27 An intermittently entertaining sex comedy that certainly has its moments and its cast certainly seemed to be having fun. The actress playing the stern coach was my favourite character because all the best jokes in the film are the ones involving her, and not just the one about johnsons that was accomplished in one take. Ultimately, though, it's not an absolute laugh riot and later sex comedies such as American Pie would improve upon this film's shortcomings, hence why some feel that the movie has aged poorly. Porky's has its moments but I can understand why some consider it to be a "you had to have been there" kind of flick See more Jay P Apr 20 Cry about it..it's good. See more Jack N Mar 24 Simply one of the greatest films of the 80s See more Deer Hair Pads Mar 23 Alright, boys, let’s talk Porky’s. This one’s a real beauty from 1981, made right here in Canada, eh? Directed by Bob Clark—same guy who gave us A Christmas Story, so you know he’s got some chops. Now, Porky’s ain’t exactly Oscar material, but it’s got that classic, raunchy, coming-of-age charm, and if you’ve ever been in a rowdy junior hockey locker room, you’ll feel right at home with the crude humour. The story follows a bunch of high schoolers in 1950s Florida who are obsessed with one thing—well, two things: getting laid and getting revenge on the sleazy owner of Porky’s, a shady strip joint. It’s basically a big ol’ prank war with some classic ‘80s shenanigans—think revenge plots, peeping tom antics, and a whole lot of awkward teenage moments. The comedy’s definitely a bit dated, but there are still some legendary scenes—like the infamous shower prank and the principal’s “tallywhacker” speech. You can’t watch this without cracking up at least a few times. And let’s not forget Kim Cattrall as “Lassie”—that howl scene? Unreal. Now, as a Canadian, I gotta tip my bucket to the fact that this was shot in Quebec. You gotta love a movie that feels American but has Canadian roots—kinda like when half the NHL is from the Prairies, but we let the Americans take credit for hockey. The downside? Well, some of the jokes don’t exactly age well, and if you’re looking for depth, you won’t find much beyond the occasional “boys will be boys” message. But if you’re cracking a few cold ones with the boys after a game and want a dumb, fun flick, Porky’s is a solid choice. 3.5 outta 5—good for a laugh, but don’t expect Slap Shot levels of greatness. --- Deer Hair Pads Reviews.
