A rollicking, thrilling and funny police picture that makes "Beverly Hills Cop" and its sequel look as if they were photographed in slow motion.

The problem with routine crime and law enforcement fantasies of this kind is that their vague stabs at authenticity are completely subverted by action sequences that belong in Road Runner cartoons.

Mindlessly enjoyable escapist fare in which a courtroom drama is enlivened by intercutting it with a couple of wholly improbable but spectacular chases in--and above--New York.

This heady mix of sleaze and comic book heroes smacks of big box office bucks and a long life on the video shelf. There ain't many better accolades than that.

In ''Shakedown,'' something fancy happens every 15 minutes or so, which is part of what makes the whole film so unremarkable.

It's an assembly of sensational moments, strung together by a plot that provides the excuses for amazing stunts, and not much else. But then not much else is needed.

Audience Reviews for Shakedown

I can remember someone seeing this in the day and noting that a particular car was cool. Sorry I missed that. It might have warranted giving this movie a full star. If you want more cheesy, listen to the title track on the soundtrack.

Good story highlights this well done 80's action movie.

A hilarious buddy action film with Peter Weller and Sam Elliot, fighting corruption in the police force and crazy drug thugs in New York city. Fun action sequences and dialogue keep the scenes flowing. It's a hoot to watch, feels very 1980's, and has high enough budget to keep the chases, shootouts and explosions spectacular. Sam and Peter play it interestingly enough to make it a fun movie. I laughed many times throughout, especially at the depiction of the drug and sex dens they entered.
