On balance, the direction, set design, and music win out, but that doesn't make 'Spellbound' vintage Hitchcock. (Blu-ray edition)

Spellbound is not one of Hitchcock's best films...That said, the Criterion Edition DVD is a must-have for any serious Hitchcock fan.

The commentary track isn't much to write home about, but there are enough good qualities to make this disc a winner.

A classic from the Master of Suspense, in a beautiful transfer and with a ton of extras to boot. An amazing disc that belongs in every collection.

The extras are exemplary, even for Criterion.

As to the quality of the transfer itself, Spellbound measures up exactly with the previous Criterion Hitchcock titles.

The film alone is a keeper.

Anchor Bay Entertainment has done a very good job transcribing Spellbound to DVD, although I have uncovered one flaw in the beautiful black and white transfer that is certain to perturb Hitchcock fans.
