Story/Screenplay: (3.5/5) An interesting sports drama about an international all-star team of World War 2 allied POW's that are assembled to play the German national team in a football/soccer game that becomes more than just a game. Duration/Tempo: (3.5/5) At 1 hour and 56 minutes, it's a longer than average movie that felt about the same. However, it's still easy to watch. Cast & Crew: (4/5) Besides some cameos from a few great footballers, you get Max von Sydow and Michael Caine, both of whom shone brightly. Sylvester Stallone is a little out of place in this film, but he was still OK. Summary: (3.5/5) The story and cast were OK and the film didn't feel long. A thumbs up.

You might like it or not, but "Escape to Victory" is kinda memorable. For the cast, if anything else.

An all-star cast in a sports drama that shows adequate sportsmanship

A hard to find really nice film featuring Stallone in soccer. Who could imagine. He pulls it off as an American pressed into action as a goaltender, and a pretty decent one at that. Who doesn't like Michael Caine in anything, and Von Sydow is always perfectly evil when he wants to be. This is a fun watch and an inspiring and educational one as well. I can't believe this has flown so far below the radar for so many decades.

A great little movie for footy(English and the rest of the world football) basically if you have no idea who Pele and Bobby Moore are you will probably not care much... If you do...you will remember countless afternoons trying to reenact Pele's over-head kick!

This film was further proof that John Huston was packed with vigor even 40 years after The Maltese Falcon, but very thin dramatically.

his was a good movie, kind of a remake of Rocky, except using Soccer and WWII. Still, you will never see Stallone, Caine, Pele and Sydow in a movie ever again. That alone makes it very worthy. Also, have always loved Bill Conti ever since I watched The Right Stuff. I think he was channeling The Great Escape in this.?

Insanely cheesy, completely predictable, but Escape To Victory has a small charm that just makes it bearable.
