Movie Info

Four friends go on a camping trip in the remote woods. One night, around a blazing fire, a mysterious tramp approaches them. In return for sharing their fire and food, he tells them four scary stories. The first, "The Hook," is about a serial killer who murders his victims with a metal hook he uses for a hand; the second, "Overtoke," tells about of a bunch of pot smokers who find out that their "grass" isn't quite what it seems to be; the third, "The Fright Before Christmas," tells what happens to a greedy yuppie who murders his mother on Christmas Eve; the fourth, "Skull & Crossbones," has a crew of pirate zombies after the evil buccaneer who murdered them. ~ Brian Gusse, Rovi

Audience Reviews for Campfire Tales (1991)

Extremely amateur, this is a bizarre collection of horror tales, several of which are quality horror stories, while the others lack substance. Gunnar Hansen, an unmasked Leatherface, introduces the stories around a campfire and assumes the role of the narrator à la old-school horror flicks. The two more interesting stories of the bunch are "Overtoke" and "The Fright Before Christmas", while the other couple of stories are nothing short of 90s amateur horror, and are not worth mentioning at all.

Campfire tales looks like something that was created in 1981, then shat out in 1991. If you're looking for some of the most boring tales imaginable, told by a guy who looks like Grizzly Adams, this dandy is for you.

If this is the one with Amy Smart in it....She was good....but the rest of the movie sucked. It wasn't really scary. And Why the nudity?? Why does there have to always be nudity??
