Critic Reviews for Heidi
"Heidi," the classic children's novel, has finally been told on the screen the way it should be: not as fluffy Pollyanna but as a thoughtful, shaded tale of love, abandonment and reunion.
Each minute of this film is justified, embellished with breathtaking scenery of Austria and the Alps and with excellent character development.
Heidi has both tenderness and spunk.September 30, 2019 | Rating: B | Full Review…
Director Michael Rhodes performs admirable period drama without going arch or artsy, and if there are moments in which Thornton's sunny Heidi edges near to cloying, they're saved by Rhodes' common sense and restraint.March 14, 2018 | Full Review…
This Jeanne Rosenberg adaptation of the timeless 1881 classic by Johanna Spyri is family entertainment at its best.
The whole final hour, in fact, is first-rate, and the supporting cast is always interesting.September 30, 2019 | Rating: B+ | Full Review…
Audience Reviews for Heidi
Mar 17, 2012One of my favourite children's story books. Heidi is an orphan manipulated by her cousin. She is sent to live with her grandfather, then taken to be a companion of a wheel chair bound girl in the city. Heart warming movie.Candy R Super Reviewer

Sep 30, 2007Sweet version of oft told tale. Robards is crusty perfection as Grandfather, Sian Phillips is a warm and wonderful Grandmama and her clothes are eye-popping. Jane Seymour starts out a perfect monster as Fraulein Rottenmeir but manages to humanize her character somewhat, she never becomes likable but not the stick figure martinet the character is usually portrayed. The rest of the cast is uniformly enjoyable and the scenery, both indoors and out, is gorgeous!jay n Super Reviewer
