News & Interviews for Grass
Critic Reviews for Grass
A fascinating, visually splendid film about the massive annual migration undertaken by Persia's Bakhtiari tribes in search of fresh pastures for their cattle.
It is an unusual and remarkable film offering, one that is instructive and compelling but in no way a story. Yet, in this picture, there is drama interspersed with captivating comedy.
A friendly rivalry with Flaherty informs the venture, a record of vital importance for Rouch, Herzog, Güney, et al.
Although the 75-year-old footage is in black and white and lacks a soundtrack, the hardship and determination of the tribesmen and women is searingly evoked.
Audience Reviews for Grass
Some incredible early footage is ruined by the most condescending, annoying, stupid, immature inter-titles known to man. 5.6
A good doc. from the silent days. It's about 2 filmakers and a female journalist going on a 4 month excursion with a tribe of 50k people through Persia looking for grasslands.Really amazing footage of deserts, mountains, and rivers. The river crossing scene is breathtaking and timeless.
