Critic Reviews for Cowboy

At 92 minutes, Cowboy is simply too short to fully explore its characters and their arcs, but, to quote Pat and Mike's Spencer Tracy (albeit in a completely different context), "What's there is 'cherce.'"

The only Western Jack Lemmon, better known for embodying on screen urban angst, has made, Cowboy is well acted by him and Glenn Ford.

Audience Reviews for Cowboy

½

Weird that this is the only western Jack Lemmon ever starred in. He's great as a hotel clerk with romantic notions about the West, who wrangles a spot on a cattle drive from trail boss Glenn Ford. Along the way, he discovers his inner cowboy and learns about the "real" West. Interesting moments that dispel Lemmon and the audience's ideas about westerns, but aside from his performance, the film's story is only sporadically interesting.

Only western Jack Lemmon ever did. Kinda slow, but interesting enough. Some good fist fights, decent shoot outs. Good performances by Lemmon and Glenn Ford. The interesting part of the story is, Lemmon's character goes from being the city tenderfoot, to the head of the cattle drive and in the process becomes a jaded whip snapping trail boss. Some good moments between the two leads creates some tense moments. Not a film the casual western fan needs to see but a must for fans of Westerns, Lemmon or Ford.

One of the most underrated and under appreciated westerns. It's an exceptional film, and one of my favorite westerns. The leads are terrific, it's one of Glenn Ford's best performances and Jack Lemmon is surprisingly effective. I would not have thought of him as being the western kind of star. The two stars have a great rapport. Good production, fine cinematography.
