Ormond and Roth, turning in nicely understated performances, generate the requisite heat, but the film never does.

Suspension of disbelief is one thing, but this movie was asking too much.

Audience Reviews for Captives

I work in a prison so knowing that the premise of this movie is highly improbable (but not totally impossible) worked against it for me. The stunningly talented and lovely Julia Ormond is a dentist whose marriage has crumbled due to her husband's infidelity immediately falls for a convict with a scarred face and bad teeth at the prison that she works in part-time. This professional woman supposedly is in such lust that she takes to having sex with this convict on public restroom floors next to the toilet. Other prisoners discover the affair - there truly are no secrets in a prison - and the two are pulled into a plan to smuggle contraband inside. Weak story with decent performances.

Despite an interesting plot, some strong acting, and some moments of fine directing and scoring, this fell just a bit flat.

Potential was there, but missed at every turn. Missed as a thriller- no suspense really. Missed as a steamy romance, despite featuring the beautiful Julia Ormond. Weak plot...and abrupt ending.
