This film reflects on Hong Kong laws and reality. It is illegal to roadrace in Hong Kong, but there are competitions in Macau. Andy Lau's character does have an impact on society. Achievements, goals, and desires are not worth risking your life for. Other than these aspects, the other aspect that this film has tackled is Andy Lau's performance and the application of the film's theme song, ??深????.

Derek Yee's crotch rocket opera takes few if any of the risks that lifted the director's preceding endeavor (1993's "C'est la Vie Mon Cheri") above the various trappings of the romance genre. Yee, to his credit keeps the melodrama agreeable due largely in part to lead Andy Lau who plays his role as a rogue with parental issues sincerely and promising new comer Gigi Leung who co-stars as Lau's uncomfortably on-again-off-again girlfriend. That aside, audiences attracted to the film's title and to the prospect of white knuckle street racing directed by car crash connoisseur Bruce Law might leave feeling cheated by Yee's indifference to the illegal sport. Others may walk out wondering about that look co-star David Ng Dai-wai has in his eye every time he comes into contact with Lau.

Unless you are a die-hard fan of Lau, motorcycle racing, or Chinese romantic dramas, you should probably skip it. There are some nice action sequences, which got it nominated for best Action Choreography. I would recommend fellow 15th HK Film Award nominee Thunderbolt for (car) racing action.

although the story does focus on 2 motorcycle racers, the main focus of this film is more on drama and relationships, likely due to being directed by Derek Yee who has really proven to be one of Hong Kong's best directors over the years. Andy Lau gives an excellent performance, Paul Chun is very good in the role of Andy's estranged father, and even David Wu is decent in this one. highly recommended and a must for fans of Andy Lau and Derek Yee.

Good movie... wonder if they should have done some real racing on the track?

Nothing like watching both a HK superstar and a 2 stroke motorbike tearing up HK like a race track.

Chinese motorcycle movie with lots of high-speed action and melodrama. Nothing much to the story, but it was fun.

The best film of Andy Lau.

I don't remember how many times I watched this film. If a film full of motorcycle could attract female audience, it's successful. This film did it.
