In this pretentiously titled international thriller, which is sloppily directed, Wesley Snipes plays an American agent who gets involved in the emerging relations between China and the Western world, with a shaky U.N. placed right in the middle.

Sun Tzu believed that becoming predictable would lead to disaster. Apparently, the creators of The Art of War couldn't be bothered to take him to heart.

If Wesley Snipes were TWICE as cool as he thinks he is...this movie would still stink.

Wesley Snipes knows how to kick some ass but he really cannot pick a script.

..straining believability factor is Snipes escaping certain death every ten minutes. If you just can't be killed, or even mildly maimed, where's the suspense?

The title alone is a tip-off that the filmmakers feel they are making something much more grand that what actually appears on-screen.

Ludicrous, impenetrable and headache-inducing: the newest Wesley Snipes film, The Art of War, is all that and more.

The Art of War manages to entertain without being enriching, and, at least in some circles, that's the definition of what a summer film is supposed to accomplish.

I'm happy to report that while it's deeply flawed, it's not by any means a bad film.

The plot is horribly predictable, and the method to the bad guys' madness is confusing.

Unconvincing rationale, unclear characters motivations, and most annoyingly, absurd action scenes ... take away from the kind of invincible and fun warrior spirit everyone expects Snipes to deliver.

Wants to be complex and snappy, but ends up messy and mostly turgid instead.

Between the dark and stormy night settings and the shifty camera work that's meant to build tension -- but doesn't -- The Art of War is often confusing to look at.

Plot points and other story elements pile up with nowhere to go.

The Art of War is drenched with a script so incomprehensible you'd prefer Chinese water torture than wracking your brain trying to keep score.

The film is a too-loud, poorly directed and seriously overedited addition to the tired genre of double-crossing international conspiracy movies.

A disgustingly violent morass of high-tech beatings and killings.
