The net result of all this cinematic whirling, of the "wrong" music and of the parodic plot, is that nothing at all in the film moves us.
I fail how to see how this film, in any way, resembles a parody. This isn't making a joke out of musicals, romance or anything of the like.
Personally I thought the music worked well. Yes even the modern songs which were re-made for the film as each song has a point behind it which explains the plot or the characters, or the culuture they are in- working well to aiding the story.
"Nothing at all in the film moves us."
I'm sorry you feel that way. From the great music peices, to the great characters to the great story-telling, I just don't see what there is to not love about this film.

I agree with this guy. I couldn't get into this film because it seemed so overblown and over-the-top that it practically did all of the emoting for me. I never felt like I was absorbed into the world of the film; I was just staring at some pretty pictures and people mugging at the camera for 2 hours.

Thumbs up for speaking the truth.
This was an idiotic, goofy movie.

Quite presumptuous of you to use 'us' in your review. Speak for yourself, because there are certainly many of 'us' that were moved by this piece. Anyway, the credibility of your review was single handedly compromised with the 'wrong music' assertion. The music is one aspect of this film that is almost undisputedly brilliant.
