Jaja B @RT54919576 Oct 14, 2026 I feel compelled to defend this movie against its undeservedly low 35% critic rating. Behind Enemy Lines is a genuinely great action thriller that deserves far more credit than it gets. I'll concede that the flashy camera work and stylistic tricks can occasionally be excessive, but I never found them distracting. Quite the opposite. They add to the film's edge-of-your-seat intensity. Gene Hackman is in top form, commanding the screen with an authority few actors can match. Owen Wilson is surprisingly excellent in a role well outside his usual wheelhouse. Ultimately, this movie punches well above its weight in sheer entertainment value. It's tense, exciting, unapologetically cinematic, and refreshingly unpretentious. This kind of straightforward, crowd-pleasing action filmmaking has all but vanished from modern Hollywood, making the film feel nostalgic.
