The worst news isn't that this Time Machine is lacking in humanity. It's that screenwriter John Logan has been given the job of writing the next Star Trek movie, Nemesis. That is bad news for the Enterprise gang.

The Time Machine is a witless recycling of the H.G. Wells story from 1895, with the absurdity intact but the wonderment missing.

The Time Machine is stupid -- too stupid for the impressive special effects or the competently directed action sequences to wash away the bitter taste.

... a listless, plodding, mumble of a film that gets so bogged down in special effects that it never comes close to capturing the adventurous spirit of the classic H.G. Wells story.

Modern take on H.G. Wells's sci-fi classic has great special effects but isn't especially affecting.

It's rare to see a movie that takes such a speedy swan dive from "promising" to "interesting" to "familiar" before landing squarely on "stupid".

A few pieces of the film buzz and whir; very little of it actually clicks. The thing just never gets off the ground.

The Time Machine is a loopy love story with good special effects but a storyline that's logically incomprehensible.

In the new film, it's personal tragedy that provokes the journey, not social upheaval or even scientific curiosity -- which, predictably, makes for a story that's at once more familiar and less interesting.

Midway through the movie, just when it seems that it might amount to something interesting, we're suddenly transported to the set of a very bad remake of Planet Of The Apes.

It's doubtful there will be a Time Machine 2 in our movie future.

The good news is that this journey might span 800,000 years, but it will only suck 90 minutes out of your life.
