This made-for-TV adaptation of Stephen King's classic fails to impress or bring anything new to the table, - or to the prom - paling even more in comparison to the 1970's memorable version. Read critic reviews

Poor little Carrie didn't need the big buildup. She's too familiar as it is, and despite a worthy star, she's all dressed up with no new, intriguing place to go.

In the hands of director David Carson (Star Trek: Generations; From the Earth to the Moon), NBC's updated Carrie is more effective than I anticipated. The film -- especially the first half -- had me in a spell.

Too much of "Carrie" feels padded, that we're watching an extra 45 seconds or a minute in certain scenes just to get them to fill out the time until the commercial break or allow in more f/x.

In the time it takes you to watch the remake, you could drive to the nearest video/DVD outlet, watch the original "Carrie" at home and return it -- and still have an hour to spare.

The homogenized quality of much network fare is especially frustrating here, in what should have been, if not a heartfelt study of youthful angst, at least a horribly good time.

It ranks with the finest of TV's adaptations of Stephen King. Granted, that's not saying much, but this Carrie is popcorn-chomping fun.

Oct 18, 2013This remake of the classic horror film Carrie is too loyal to the source material for its own good, and isn't able to deliver any chills or scares. The cast, which features Emilie de Ravin, Kandyse McClure, and Rena Sofer, isn't that bad, but the performances are bland and lifeless. The directing is also especially poor and makes all the sets and costumes look cheap. Additionally, the pacing is extremely slow and prevents the story from building any momentum or engaging the audience. While this Carrie may be closer to the original novel, it doesn't work cinematically.Dann M Super Reviewer

Oct 12, 2010I really don't know why they remade this at all. They didn't improve on the original at all. Patricia Clarkson is a less scary villain, the plot makes less sense, all the schoolgirls are flatter and Angela Bettis is horrible in this. I did like the way Sue voluntarily forfeited her prom ticket and how Tommy genuinely treated Carrie nicely, and Rena Sofer created a better and more believable Miss Desjardins. But the addition of the flashback storytelling and the extraneous headgames that Sue seems to be trying to play with the detective seemed out of place. This is a movie with no imagination.Emily A Super Reviewer
