Visnjic is the high point... bringing a sincerity and an honesty to the role that forces you to take it seriously and not indulge in too many jokes about men in skirts...

Audience Reviews for Spartacus

While not entirely as good as the original, it is still a powerful recreation of the original, holding vast amounts of respectful changes that will spark your wonder again. Of course, the film does still retain its good acting, compelling story, strong characters, excellent combat sequences, good directing, good writing and emotional power, which has even gotten greater. Still, there are a deal of other flaws that keeps this from matching the original, but that doesn't mean that it's not a true masterpiece.

Decent version of the famous story with Goran Visnjic stalwart in the lead. Good production values and a consistent pace help this as well as many fine supporting performances, the best of which is given by the great Alan Bates, an actor of enormous scope, in his last role.

Spartacus [img][/img] This version of Spartacus was a made for tv movie a few years ago. I have never seen the older version so I can't compare the two, only that I know that this one is suppose to be more historically acurate. It was a little over two hours long but I found the storyline to be entertaining enough that I went right through the first and second parts of it. I couldn't really tell you why I decided to watch this but I did. The only thing is that it reminds me of a mixture of Gladiator and a tiny bit of 300. Which isn't bad since this is based on actual events. But you do see where the influences come from for those types of films. This movie may not be the best, it is made for tv and contains a bunch of unknow actors, but its still fun to watch and gives a better account of the Spartacus history.
