Spoilers sure is scary when it tells about your tragic future.

Slow in spots, but consistently well directed. Eerie, with a surprising and awesome finale. The American adaptation really messed up the concept.

Yogen is one of the later stage J-horror films to come about after Ringu and Juon-initiated furore. Like them, it deals with a curse that needs investigating in order to (hopefully) beat it, but its never a cheaply disguised cash in as the One Missed Call movies were. In Yogen, the curse is centred on ghostly newspaper articles that foretell future tragedy, and pick one person as the conduit for such "premonitions". A professor loses his daughter in a tragic accident shortly after having it foretold by one of the aforementioned, and years later, along with his ex-wife, tries to unravel the mystery, and perhaps make the past right again, or lose himself to the curse trying. The film has some powerful, if not downright distressing dramatic points, but much of plot between those points develops much too slowly, something that is not helped by intensely morose performances. However, as with most J-horror, not everything will make sense... in a good way. That is after all part of the allure. Yogen in particular leads to a rather satisfying, mind-bending climax that may involve intriguing elements of time travel.

The Japanese simply know how to make better horror films, and surprisingly with less CGI.

A tad bland, but looks great. The thing is, if you've seen a lot of modern Japanese horror, you've seen this.

I was sceptical about this movie, having gradually become tired of the J-horror predictable format, but this broke rank a little. There are some genuinely moving moments and two very sympathetic leads. The scares are few and far between, but when they do come they are rather effective and it tends to be more about the overall atmosphere than individual shocks. Rather than the usual J-horror ending (it turns out to be a spooky girl who was bullied to death) there's a nice twist. Not the greatest movie of all time- perhaps diluted in its impact because of the constant drip of mediocre Japanese horror that we're presented with- but certainly one to watch.

Allow me to begin with the following statement:
This is a C+ film with an A- of an end sequence.
Is the end really that good? YES.
It will have you gasping for air, wracked with tension, and squirming like a worm on a hook with suspense.
Now for the bad news.
Aside from several genuinely creepy moments there is not much to this film other than character development. Normally that would be a good thing but in the case of this film, it passes itself off as a thriller early on but then displays strong signs of becoming a romantic comedy for the remainder.
Without much romance...or comedy.
This film could be described as a slog, but with a very satisfying and gripping consolation prize at the end.
Is it worth sitting through for the amazing short film that exists as the ending (which capitalizes on nearly every scene in the film up until that point so youtubing it will only confuse you)?
I think it is worth it, perhaps you will as well.

Very creepy stuff. Not in terms of gore, but in thrills. I'm not even willing to watch it a second time. Not because it's bad, but because it sends shivers down my spine the first time, a feeling I wouldn't want to have again anytime soon.

More suspense/horror than straight horror. In fact, no real horror elements come in until late in the film. I'm not sure what the "horror" label says to audiences outside the US, but American moviegoers who have a taste for horror films may be disappointed in this. Avoiding any labels, it's a well-woven, intriguing, and touching story with excellent performances.

Modest, and quite decent, horror affair, that steps away from the ringu/ju on crowd to tell it's own story of the supernatural. Good performances, and enough disturbing moments to keep you watching.

Beautifully done movie, just about everything about it is perfect. And you really feel for the characters, and you really care for what happens to them. With a really creepy overall atmosphere and excellent acting, yeah. This was a great flick.

Worth seeing for the quality of the scene shots were very bewitching

It's kind of like Final Destination, but it's actually more focused in scaring peaple than in making teenagers die in the stupidest ways... and also, there's japanese people

Decent japanese horror movie.

Good start with a good story, but the screenplay kind of sank it as the film progressed, but the ending was good. The two leads performed well with their characters to keep the film moving while the story is so slow.

This was an interesting tale. The profound pain and desperation Hideki displays at the loss of his young daughter is conveyed in every scene he plays. It is creepy and thought provoking. There were parts of time that the scenes were not seamless and it made the story confusing and hard to follow at times. This movie requires you to make an effort to watch it. A few times, I had to rewind a part to try to figure out what just happened. Good enough to see - once.

Watchable supernatural J-Horror about a guy that recieves premonitions of impending fatal disasters but acting on them will mean his own death in return. Not the most original of premises with different variations of the theme appearing in films like the "Ringu" series and "The Final Destination" franchise. "Premonition" still manages to be a decently entertaining movie with some creepy moments which are helped along by the effectively eerie music. Not really scary or gory at all but there are a couple of mild "eww" moments. It's not quite up there with the best of Asian horror but it's a solid effort and was good enough to spawn a Hollywood remake.
