Movie Info

Filmmaker Manu Boyer highlights the determined struggles of an unknown band to make a name for themselves as their curiously high-profile manager does his best to spread the good word in a musical documentary that is at once entertaining and surprisingly endearing. As Rocco Deluca and the Burden tirelessly tour through Dublin, London, and Berlin, their well-known road manager Kiefer Sutherland spares no expense in promoting both his best-loved musical act and his emerging new independent record label, Ironworks Music. Whether promoting the band in interviews or simply standing outside of the venue to offer free tickets to astonished passers-by, Sutherland sings the praises of Rocco Deluca and the Burden as the emerging band offers a vivid recollection of life on the road.

  • A home movie masquerading as a feature documentary.

    October 3, 2006
  • It doesn't seem like a single scene was filmed without the main characters being aware that the cameras were on, and there is almost no dramatic tension.

  • Even when he looks like a complete dolt, Sutherland still comes off sympathetically, as a cool guy.

    September 20, 2006 | Rating: B+ | Full Review…
  • I Trust You to Kill Me has enough virtues -- principally Sutherland's presence and the quality of the music -- to make it an enjoyable trip.

    September 15, 2006 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…
  • At its frequent best, the artfully crafted doc earns respect as an insightful and arresting behind-the-scenes look at what any band must endure to make that first lunge at the brass ring.

  • That Rocco DeLuca and the Burden are attached to Kiefer Sutherland is the only discernible reason for the existence of Manu Boyer's inconsequential documentary.
