Critic Reviews for Kannathil Muthamittal (A Peck on the Cheek)
In A Peck on the Cheek, we get Ratnam at his best, albeit with a few glitches.
Director/writer Mani Ratnam has zeroed in on the Sri Lankan/Tamil conflict to demonstrate the consequences of political upheaval under the guise of social/religious/commercial progress.
Looks too commercially slick in its presentation to really touch one's heart.
The clash of styles works very well, and the uncompromising picture was a treat to see.
This lavish Indian comedy-drama is unsure of what it wants to be, but still manages to be charming and consistently entertaining.
Audience Reviews for Kannathil Muthamittal (A Peck on the Cheek)
It could have been a sweeping tearjerker but instead good scenes are mixed up with hokey song and dance numbers and a commercial edge.
A little girl learns that she was adopted and sets out with her parents on a dangerous journey through areas at war to find her birth mother and the truth to why she was abandoned. It is a heartbreaking story told through the eyes of beautiful eight-year-old Amudha (the actress who plays her is breathtaking.) The story is a tear-jerker... sure to sweep you away with tender love.
