Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (2009)
Critic Consensus: A retread of A Christmas Carol, featuring Matthew McConaughey in a retread of his Dazed and Confused role, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past lacks originality, humor, and any semblance of charm.

Critic Reviews for Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
This movie I think really did the impossible. It makes Failure To Launch look like The Thin Man.
Just in case you can't get enough of the romantic comedy oeuvre of Matthew McConaughey, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past is here to remind you that, yes, some films of his are even worse than Failure to Launch, Surfer Dude, and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
I'm almost embarrassed to admit I found Ghosts of Girlfriends Past the season's first genuine guilty pleasure.
Only two characters might qualify as sympathetic.
Audience Reviews for Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
This romcom inventively hitches it's star to Dicken's "A Christmas Carol", but instead of Scrooge, who has no love for the species of mankind, we get a stereotypical gigolo who has no love for women, and consequently refuses to ever marry. You can plainly see then where this is going. Can they manage to spin it so that the arrival is at least entertaining? Mostly no. There are bits, but everything is telegraphed so far ahead as to make the total experience a little soul-killing.
Clever re-telling of Dickensian morality tale. Attractive and endearing cast and sweet message of love and forgiveness.
Not the worst romantic comedy I have ever seen and it did make me laugh out loud at certain points, but in the end we are dealing with a genre that we as an audience know better than our own reflections. We know the Dickens tale just as well, so combining the two gave very few surprises and I feel with the rom com genre, surprises in an otherwise stagnant movie are what set them apart from the crowd. McConaughey was, well he was himself, just as the cameo from Douglas and the watery semi-presence of Garner. Still it was watchable and gave what it said it would - teary eyes, lessons learned and a whole lot of promiscous and vaccuous sexual innuendo.
