My Name Is Bruce

Critics Consensus

My Name Is Bruce succeeds or fails based entirely upon the viewer's opinion of Bruce Campbell, an unreasonable burden for even the most accomplished actor.

  • Add two stars-or even three-if you're as passionate about cheesy B-actor Campbell as he is about himself.

  • Perhaps the best thing that can be said about My Name Is Bruce is that Bruce Campbell has in fact appeared in worse movies.

  • Light as air, My Name Is Bruce is good for a mild chuckle, not a belly laugh. As any Campbell fan knows, managing expectations is key to getting the most from his work.

  • Cheerfully embracing his status as cult B-movie genre megastar even as he sends it up, Bruce Campbell's sophomore directorial excursion, My Name is Bruce, is a big in-joke of definite if limited appeal.

Audience Reviews for My Name Is Bruce

I'll admit I had only watched the Evil Dead trilogy before watching this. Considering I didn't know very much on Bruce Campbell, I quite enjoyed 'My Name Is Bruce'. I've watched it quite a few times because there are plenty of references to previous Campbell films; from simple one liners, to obvious yet clever cameos. While it does have some rather funny moments, it's not suppose to be taken as a serious film. This to me, makes it a more humorous film than it seems. Although some scenes are better than others, this is one film that should be given a try for horror-comedy and especially Bruce Campbell fans.

I iked the film and thought Bruce Campbell was fun in the lead role. The film is a classic b grade film that wears the badge on its sleeve proudly. you really will have to know Campbells brand of humour to cherish this film.

Very good horror comedy starring Bruce Campbell as himself, My Name is Bruce is a fun film from start to finish. Though it could have been better, this is nonetheless a must see for fans of Bruce Campbell. This film is a parody of the actor's career, and he does it beautifully. This is a very well done horror comedy, and is one of the best films that Campbell has done in many years. The fact that the film parodies his films adds to the enjoyment of the film. This is not something to take seriously whatsoever. This is pure B movie fare and it definitely will appeal to fans of low-budget films. For what it is, this is an enjoyable film that is a bit underrated. The film does leave room for improvement. Even for its flaws, My Name Is Bruce is a fun ride that is a must see for B movie horror fans. Although the script is uneven, the film has enough good moments to make this a watchable film. I found that the film was pretty funny, and that Bruce Campbell did a good job. I agree that the film could have been better, but for what it is, it's nonetheless a good little comedy horror flick that not meant to be taken seriously. I don't understand why this film has been received so poorly. I felt it was a pleasant time waster, one that certainly was comical and fun despite its flaws. This is a film worth watching, and if you love Bruce Campbell, it definitely isn't something fans should skip out on. This not a film that deserves all the flack it has received, and is much better than what most people have said about it. But with every film, it could have been reworked slightly to make it really a memorable film, but as a whole, it's a mindless comedy horror flick worth checking out.

Very entertaining and funny. I appreciate the fact that Bruce Campbell can poke fun at himself and his own movies, while simultaneously playing, well, himself. Worth seeing if you liked the Evil Dead trilogy, because this is like the unofficial fourth film.
