Proud American (2008)
Critic Reviews for Proud American
It seems more like an hour-and-a-half-long infomercial for America than a narrative film or documentary. Like something you might hallucinate on Flag Day.
A corporate-sponsored, feature-length infomercial on behalf of the core entrepreneurial values of the U.S. of A., Proud American combines unabashed hokiness with relentless oversimplification.
Aside from a few, thankfully, professionally acted performances, it too often carries the preachy, stilted aura of something you'd see in civics class or at a trade show.
Aspires to be inspirational, but suffers from its shameless, jackhammer-style manipulation.
If America's even half as great as writer-producer-director Fred Ashman's almost unfathomably cheesy movie insists, her citizens will rise up to destroy this bathetic rubbish -- or at least make a pitilessly derided cult sensation of it.
