Good performances, photography and music score, almost save this interesting subject from its badly developed script and poorish direction (Shana Feste). Two young students do two foolish things on the first day they meet. (1) Have fist time intercourse (unprotected) without knowing anything about each other! and (2) Park in the middle of the highway to talk! Resulting in life-altering consequences. The movie suffers from too many loose ends and unlikely situations to neatly tie-up its associated stories - as well as so-called ‘trendy', foul-mouthed Hollywood dialogue.
The stars do the best they can to breathe life into material offering some interesting but not always convincing relationships - with certain situations leaving more questions than answers. A difficult subject such as this needed a more mature writer and director. Viewers who look at movies in ‘high emotion' mode may not notice the flaws. Others might be disappointed.
Pierce Brosnan is a gem here, but the entire film is too predictable.
Koskettava tarina ja hyvät näyttelijät. <3 (Suom. The Greatest - Suurimmat tunteet)
The Greatest is good romance mixed with a fine moments of drama and good performances. (3/5)
A half-decent relationship drama centred around people dealing with the death of a family member. It's dreary, mediocre & even a tad predictable but for the subject matter at hand - it actually works. Not to mention the movie is helped along by some seriously skilled acting veterans. Susan & Pierce were great together. In fact I've never seen Pierce Brosnan in a role like this before, so kudos!

can't instar. haven't seen
what a beautiful sad and happy movie this is. your first child, you son dies in a tragic car accident on the last day of school. in the car is his girlfriend for a day. three months later she shows up 3month pregnant with his kid. the boy's parents are dealing with grief and can not contemplate dealing with a teenage pregnancy. this movie will make you cry. Sue Sarandon and pierce Bronson act like the parents. excellent movie.
We like films like this. As a tale it's a bit contrived, and some of the script is poor, but overall it's a good study of grief, and the cast do a great job in bringing it to life. There are no car chases and only one death, and it's a real tearjerker. I cried. I was glad to cry.
I don't understand the low ratings as although it was very depressing, this film explored grief very well, and showed how people cope with it in different ways.
