Movie Info

When Anne-Marie (Delphine Seyrig), the wife of the French vice-consul, grows weary of her oppressive life in 1930s India, she compulsively makes love so as to forget her situation. Her husband (Michel Lonsdale) is aware of her affairs but understands the cause of them and affects not to notice. Curiously, the mansion--so strongly evocative of India--where most of the movie was filmed, was just outside of Paris ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovimore

So it goes in this kind of romantic nonsense that isn't too different in essential content from the four-hankie movies of the nineteen-thirties and forties.

A static doomed lover movie that is meant to excite you stylistically as it bores you to death with its thin drama.

Audience Reviews for India Song

I think the end of the copy I watched got cut off, only adding to my general confusion as to what the hell anyone was talking about.

Boring and utterly dreadful. I think we're meant to learn something about romance, but it's as if it was written by a 15 year-old girl who knows nothing about romance. There's more to being in love that just talking about being in love and how much it tortures your soul. Points for a somewhat original narrative (although it's blatantly influenced by Resnais) and some painterly images (which you will have a LONG time to study), but otherwise a real drag.
