      Critics Consensus

The Losers is loud, fast, and unrelentingly violent -- but it's also funny and well-acted, which will make all the difference for some action fans. Read critic reviews

Action packed and over-the-top, The Losers is an entertaining revenge thriller based on a cult comic book series. When a U.S. Special Forces unit gets burned by a black-ops CIA agent, they team up with a mysterious woman who offers to help them get revenge and clear their names. There's not much originality to the story, but its familiarity works in the film's favor as it plays to the tropes that are expected in an action movie. The cast is fairly strong, and includes Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, Zoe Saldana, and Idris Elba. And, the humor plays pretty well; setting a lighthearted tone that offsets the violence. Additionally, the action is a lot of fun, and is staged in elaborate, exiting sequences. There are some problems with The Losers, but it's an entertaining popcorn flick.

This loosely-based DC Comic has stylized action that's a good vibe throughout the film, but falters on several occasions. The Losers' fast-paced tempo doesn't allow the audience to fully grasp the background of each character. The overall simplification and predictability of the script also is a let-down with an uninspiring and somewhat nixed-chemistry amongst characters, although it does have a decent twist to the story. Overall, the film is an excitement that you'd only want experience once and only once. 2.5/5

In "The Losers," Colonel Clay(Jeffrey Dean Morgan) leads a black ops unit into the jungles of Bolivia for a milk run. Just to prove that nothing is ever that easy, they spot children in the compound that they just called in for a bombing run but Max(Jason Patric) overrules their objections. In the face of danger, they rescue all of the children. Tragically, they die in the helicopter shot down and the soldiers are presumed dead. In the meantime, they decide to lay low. At least, Clay gets lucky when he encounters Aisha(Zoe Saldana). Strangely enough, the foreplay is not as stimulating as the briefing she gives on her plans for getting revenge on Max. Based on the DC/Vertigo comic book written by Andy Diggle and drawn by Jock, "The Losers" visually resembles its source material down to a classic gag while also following the general outline of the comic book. However, instead of a gritty tale of revenge, intrigue and betrayal, for some odd reason, the movie takes the sentimental route because nothing says bad ass like cutesy. Even with a heinous body count, the movie is an F-bomb, cockfighting and a discreet sex scene away from your average Disney movie. There are many attempts at comedy that mostly fall flat due to everybody's timing being off which could be explained by the abundance of slow motion. For example, Chris Evans just comes off as annoying. And I won't say anything about Zoe Saldana except that she is woefully miscast.

what a dull, cliched, dumb, yet unintentionally hilarious film - but mostly, its just bad. The second towards the beginning when the helicopter full of children explodes and one of the characters picks up one of the kid's burnt teddy bear, you'll know this is an especially derivative movie, and the nonsensical, lowest common denominator humor really doesn't help matters.
