All four of the ... animators have clearly demonstrated by their work that they can be trusted to take a more prominent role in studio features going forward.

A likeable enough group, in which the expected contenders (why hello there, Pixar) sit alongside unknowns whose styles are just varied enough to avoid monotony.

The odds-on favorite to win this year's Oscar for best animated short film is Alan Barillaro's Piper... I'd hate to be one of the other animators... especially since most of them have better films in competition.

As befits their nominations for an Academy Award in the field of animation, the five chosen short films all boast some excellence in whichever style of animation - CG, woodcut, traditional cel - and storytelling they employ.
