Director Ben Hopkins paints an intimate portrait of the Pamir Kirghiz, a small nomadic tribe driven into exile from Central Asia and now residing in Turkey. Through interviews and reenactments of their harrowing migration, Hopkins documents the tribe's recent history, including their disdain for communism, their post-World War II persecution and the subsequent exodus from Soviet Russia, Maoist China and Afghanistan that led to their settling into their current home.

02/22/2009 A good documentary... I loved all the recreated footage, and the personalities of the subjects really shone through:) See more 10/05/2008 A fantastic film.Clever, well shot, and filled with interesting interviews. My only complaint really is that the narrator doesn't seem to be all that into the story, but that's a very small shortcoming. See more 02/11/2008 Re-imagined scenes of Pudovkin's "Storm Over Asia", with the hearty, human story of the Pamir Khirgiz and their uncertain fate...Brilliant. Plus, you get to learn a lot about the chain of life from susme to bishqat, is it? There is no 37th use...But the 36th is to herald the newborn son. Watch it. Highly intriguing and unusual documentary, looking at how 20th century history shifted a group of nomads here, there and everywhere and how the director filmed a depiction of this with them, whilst discovering all the useful uses of a dead sheep See more 07/04/2007 totally new way of making a film-and it works See more Read all reviews
