Movie Info

At Calipatria State Prison, a band of inmates engages in a theatrical workshop hosted by The Actors' Gang, a theatre troupe spearheaded by actor Tim Robbins. The prisoners negotiate the complex emotions that arise from their incarceration as well as form new relationships with one another that transcend gang loyalties or ethnic divides. Ultimately, wider commentary on personal transformation emerges out of the men's struggles and successes. Directed by Tim Robbins.

  • Robbins' first stint as a factual director is guilty of doubling as an advertisement; however, just as the film's inmates find inner freedom despite their status, so too does this affecting feature.
