Movie Info

Four decades after clashing over which of them would win the hand of the girl they both loved, two sworn brothers cling to their bitter rivalry in this bittersweet comedy about life among the common people of Hong Kong. Back in the 1970s, Ha Kung (Eric Tsang) and Shek Kin (Jacky Cheung) prevented a greedy pair of slumlords (Lam Ka Tung and Charmaine Sheh) from evicting 72 destitute tenants, and save Pinky (Anita Yuen) from entering into an arranged marriage. Torn between the two men who declared their love for her, Pinky flipped a coin to determine who she would marry, and Ha won. In the years that followed, the goodwill between Ha and Shek gradually eroded, and the two former brothers grew into sworn enemies. Forty years later, the two rivals are both working in Mongkok, trying to corner the electronics market as the tenants they once stood up for observe the fierce competition from afar. This film is actually a loose remake of Chor Yuen's 1972 The House of 72 Tenants.
