The second Fu Manchu in the series is weaker than the original The Face of Fu Manchu, but still enjoyable hokum.
Christopher Lee Plays an Excellent Fu Manchu, his acting throughout this movie is outstanding and stellar. Fu Manchu is kidnapping scientist and their daughters to develop a death ray . But the law is out to stop him. Having been filmed in 1966 this film was good enough to convince me to watch the 2 other Fu Manchu movies staring Christopher Lee, I think this is his best role.
4 stars 3-12-12
I have to be honest here and say that I haven't seen any of the films in the Fu Manchu series, and being that this is a sequel, it's probably not the best place to start because it seems to be following a story of sorts. Christopher Lee stars in The Brides of Fu Manchu, which picks up where the previous film The Face of Fu Manchu left off. It apparently was successful enough to warrant a set of sequels and I guess it doesn't really matter what order you watch them in. I'm assuming they're all pretty much the same. Like I said, I haven't seen the others, but this isn't terribly impressive, nor is it all that entertaining. It's quite boring actually, but it does have Christopher Lee in Asian make-up, some beautiful young ladies and lots of Karate and Judo from not just the bad guys but the good guys too. Apparently if you fight in one of these movies, you automatically know how to Judo chop. It reminded me a lot of early Bond movies in that regard. So I guess in some sick, twisted and demented sort of way it has some watchability to it, but only for the reasons that I mentioned. It's not a good movie by any stretch of the imagination, but I am curious to see the rest of the films in the series just to see where it goes from here. It won't get any better, I'm sure.
