Good short film, Eisenstein's first before making his first two features Strike and Battleship Potemkin. Full of clowns and strange characters, I wish it had sound so I could understand it better, but it doesn't even have accompanying music. Memorable scenes are when a man loses his top hat on top of a building and tries to retrieve it. Then there's a scene which shows a man transforming into a donkey, showing his early cinematic mastery and experimentation. Finally, there is a shot of two clown's feet descending a few steps, perhaps foreshadowing his famous shot in Battleship Potemkin. Worthwhile to see one of cinema's early master's trying to find his voice through film.
