Audience Reviews for Macbeth

A DVD I have of classic movies contains a poor quality transfer of this TV movie. It is somewhat shortened from Shakespeare's original script at about an hour and fifteen minutes without commercials. Sean Connery is not bad as Macbeth, who is pushed along to ambition by his wife. He is not flashy despite quite a bit of narration that tries to put you in his head, but neither does he command your full attention. The action is restricted to an expressionist inspired set. While the set looks cool as do the scenes in silhouette, it feels cramped. Potential special effects such as the dagger and the forest advancing on the castle are non-existent. The ghost of Banquo's appearance is done as low tech as possible. Mainly of interest for the rare (pre-Bond) performance by Connery.
