Critic Reviews for Tricked: The Documentary
A documentary that presents the sexual exploitation of young women as a systemic cancer that feeds on public misconception as much as male appetites.
The film is wisely sparing of melodramatic flair, allowing the inherent drama of the situation to horrify and harrow on its own.
A hard-hitting documentary exposing the cruel underworld of sex trafficking of teenage girls.
Sobering, [but] with a focus that is more anecdotal than comprehensive, Tricked comes off as basically on par with any given television newsmagazine story on the same topic.
Another story is implicit here, about the kind of environment...that begets the kind of people it's difficult to see as more deeply shaded than horror-movie monsters. As a clarion call to a broader awareness, however, Tricked sounds a piercing note.
Audience Reviews for Tricked: The Documentary
An interesting documentary that sets out to discuss a horrible endemic social cancer (to which there seems to be no solution), presenting the causes of human trafficking and modern-day slavery even though it may feel a bit superficial and not as in-depth as it could have been.
An eye-opening documentary about the sex trade, Tricked is provocative and daring. The film interviews several former prostitutes, pimps, and law enforcement agents as they share their experiences; with a focus on how women are lured and trapped into the lifestyle. The stories have a real earnestness to them that's quite compelling, and at times shocking. However, there's not much follow-through on a lot of the disturbing issues that are brought-up in these discussions. Yet even if it doesn't get remarkably in-depth, Tricked is a captivating and hard-hitting look at the growing problem of sex trafficking in America.
