Movie Info

In this British espionage film, the chief of British intelligence creates a plot to provide fake information to the Nazis in Normandy. To accomplish this he chooses an agent and neglects to inform him of the true reason for his mission. He believes the Germans will be more likely to buy the ruse if they have to torture the agent to reveal the information. The chief's pretty assistant is told to cozy up to the Canadian officer whom he selected to do the job. She does, but falls in love with him. The hapless Canadian is parachuted into Normandy and is indeed tortured until he reveals the bogus information. The French rescue him and he returns to Great Britain. He cannot overcome a sense of failure and guilt about giving up the information. He berates himself as a coward and begins drinking. He has almost drunk himself to death when the aide who loved him appears and tells him the truth about his actions. He is actually a hero.
