"You knew I was a snake..."
So the price of milking this emerging market is the pretend shock that China has actually learned a thing or two about gangster economics? They know that Hollywood is too skittish to get down and say, "F'ck you, pay me", so guess what, they don't pay. It probably won't be long before they start demanding edits to more subversive and dissident material in films, and Hollywood will comply, because I think that, deep down, they actually really admire such socially compliant control.

Milking? In China, studios only get 20% of the gross, compared to getting half in other countries. Up till now, China has been mainly used simply for bragging rather than getting much of a profit, so you can see why studios are unhappy. I mean take a film like Pacific Rim. Its success or failure as a whole could very well depend on how much money studios can get from its performance in China.
It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. Usually disputes between theaters and studios end up in favor of the studio but China is stubborn, though at the same time they're not going to want to miss out on the hundreds of millions hollywood blockbusters make there each year.
