I'm not really sure what to think about this movie. On one hand it was better than I expected thanks to its lead, whose stoic, yet very expressive, eyes remind me of Buster Keaton and its action sequences were topnotch, particularly the last shootout scene in the company office, which was intense thanks to its close-quarter setting and the fact that it looks like it was shot using a completely different lens also added to the more realistic look the scene had. At the same time, I really found the story of the film to be fairly uninteresting. There's this fine idea here of this killer going through this existential crisis as he starts to question his choices in life and his bloody past with the company he works for. The way they go about this is stereotypical, as he falls in love with the mother of one of his trainees. And this is really where the film falls apart. Perhaps fall apart isn't the right term, because it isn't like the film is a disaster, but I found these parts of the film lacking in any decent character development or acting. The characters are pretty one-dimensional and perhaps if the characters would've been more interesting, then I may have thought this was a good movie. I don't mean to say the acting from the supporting cast is bad, it's just that they don't really stand out and that is due to the fact that their characters are one-dimensional and have nothing interesting to say. Your lead's charisma and solid action sequences can only take you so far without a decent story to tell. This movie isn't bad at all, it's just lacking certain things that would've made it a good movie. As it stands, it's more than a watchable movie, but nothing else.
