  • Minus song and dance, and other silly distractions. The casting is reason enough to celebrate; the plot and the treatment matches up. Almost.

  • In a way, the film moves a step forward from where Rang De Basanti left. In a similar vein, it articulates the frustration and violence that has become deep-seated in the urban, middle-class psyche.

Indian thriller with a difference as the Mumbai police try to stop an anonymous bomber from blowing things up unless they hand over a bunch of terrorists. Stylish, uncheesy acting and refreshingly not a dance number in sight.

A common man's attempt to give a reply to terrorists in their own terms. "No mother f***er can just press a button and decide that my time is up.."

Mumbai, the financial capital of India, the city that never sleeps, the city of dreams, fast paced and ever changing, home to Bollywood! A City of beauty but also a city that got scarred! A city whose foundation is slowly crumbling beneath its facade of invincibility! 'A Wednesday!' tells the story of certain events that unfold between 2.P.M and 6 P.M on a particular Wednesday in this city. Events which do not exist in any record but which deeply affect the lives of those involved. Prakash Rathod (Anupam Kher), Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, gets a call demanding the release of four extremely dangerous militants within the next four hours from an unknown person (Naseeruddin Shah). If it doesn't happen then several bombs planted across the city would blow up. He has to make a choice between releasing the militants, who are responsible for the unaccountable damage to civilian lives or let Mumbai be ripped apart by blasts again. Prakash Rathod is not a man who would give up easily. He leaves no stone unturned in order to track down the man who's held the city at ransom. He gets a team of his best men together and taps all his resources. He Step up security in all public places-airport, stations, malls and multiplexes. A hacker is brought in to trace the calls and the location of the man, but they are always a step behind. Prakash decides that he cannot put innumerable lives at stake and thus hand picks two of his best officers, Arif Khan (Jimmy Shergil) and Jai Singh (Aamir Bashir) to do the handover of the militants. It is then that events take a wild turn. Prakash Rathod and his team are confronted with an unimaginable and impossible situation. Holy-smoke! Movies like "A Wednesday" gives a beautiful shock. Yes, this is the finest movie of the year (without a doubt) & a masterpiece of Bollywood. Not only there are some incredibly talented actors, but also the direction of the movie is fabulous. "Black Friday", "Aamir" & "Mumbai Meri Jaan", these were the movie which actually were listed among the most finest community based movies, now there would be the name of another flick, "A Wednesday". Neeraj Pandey makes his debut with such a powerful movie & screenplay, & he proves he is one of the best film-maker in the nation. The direction is amazing & flawless. The performances, all the performances are extremely good. Naseer, with a character of a mysterious man, gives one of his superior performance. He proves in the climax sequence, that he is one of the finest actors in Bollywood. Anupam Kher, another brilliant actor, proves to be the best yet again, superb. Jimmy Shergill is a pure surprise, we know he can act very well, he proved it in "Haasil", & yet again he proves it by playing a hardcore-cop & yes, we also get to see one of the most hardcore cop character on-screen in Indian Cinema, power-packed performance. Same goes with Aamir Bashir, another fine actor, who gave an absolute solid performance in the movie. The chemistry between Shergill & Bashir is great (watch the second half of the movie). Deepal Shaw was fine, not bad at all, definitely improved since her last movie. The background score is absolutely fine & it creates the ignition for the excitement. "A Wednesday" deals with a very sensitive matter, & it is not just a movie based on Indian terrorism, but it is also one of the best thriller ever made in the history of Bollywood. An absolutely fantastic movie, with rock solid performances. Do not miss this great movie.
