It's an unmitigated disaster, not even worth a spin as a curiosity piece.
If there are David O Russell completists out there, this is something for them.
The misplaced screwball energy is wearying.
Accidental Love is an utter mess, which is understandable given its troubled provenance. It's also fascinating.
Really awful. Unwatchably awful. As in, "Give it the Razzie now and be done with it" awful.
Forget the title. "Accidental Release" is more like it.
It's crude and contrived but Biel has a wide-eyed, Judy Garland-like appeal and she enjoys terrific screen chemistry with an on-form Jake Gyllenhaal.
A bit more focused and this could be a something worth saving. Instead, it's a about as slipshod as its new title.
If Russell had been around to fine tune Accidental Love... in its final stages then the satirical blows the film aims at US politics and health care would surely have had a better chance of hitting their target.
David O Russell has moved on, as should we all.
Unsurprisingly, it's a mess.
Who knew Biel could act? Could rollerskate? And yet even a bumpkin such as I can be schooled, and so I was. Loved this bit of political satire about obtaining healthcare for everyone. I even liked Tracy Morgan. When does that happen?
This actually starts off okay. Yes, it's hammy, but I could go with it. Right up until Alice winds up with the nail in her head, I enjoyed this. Then when the political stuff kicks in... Not so much.
Unbelievably stupid, Accidental Love is an absurd piece of political satire. Jessica Biel, Jake Gyllenhaal, James Marsden, and Catherine Keener star in this ridiculous tale of a woman who seeks out her congressman in order to pass an emergency health care bill after she is impaled in the head by a nail gun and lacks the insurance needed to get the nail removed. The politics are incredibly heavy handed and undercuts the comedy. And the performances are just awful. A crazy mess, Accidental Love is a poorly made film that's over stuffed with lame characters and bad jokes.
I was not sure whether or not this was trying to be a comedy or not. Black humour with an interesting undertone about the USA legal system and healthcare.
