Movie Info

An attendant for a village priest becomes a soldier in the Cuban revolution in this offbeat adventure comedy. His healthy cynicism towards the police, wealthy landlords, and the government serves him well after he join ups with a female guerilla. He rises to become a lieutenant as he waits for the signal for the rebellion to begin. ~ Dan Pavlides, Rovi

  • A Cuban comedy classic spinning a playfully couched tale of misfortune, exploitation and guerrilla uprising that might be termed revolutionary lite.

As it starts with proving how hard it is to keep a great man down, "The Adventures of Juan Quin Quin" returns to when Juan(Julio Martinez) was a humble altar boy. There he is warned to stay away from his friend Jachero(Erdwin Fernandez) and the cockfights and maybe not in that order. That might not have been the worst advice, as they flee after a competitor fights back from charges of cheating from the duo. They end up in a circus where they hatch a plan to become bullfighters. Moving back and forth between genres, styles and tones with wild abandon(It does get serious shortly before the end), "The Adventures of Juan Quin Quin" somehow never loses sight of the goal which in this case is revolution. That should not be surprising considering this is Cuba but then this could really be anywhere where there is injustice and repression. It is a dream that these characters have, along with joining the circus and falling in love with a beautiful woman.
