  Steve Coogan brings his BBC character Alan Partridge to the big screen in this satirical British comedy. When his radio station is taken hostage by a disgruntled employee who was fired, radio DJ Alan Partridge is asked to help serve as negotiator throughout the crisis. Both Coogan and his co-star Colm Meaney give great performances. And the comedy is fairly well-done, doing a good job at mixing dry humor with slapstick. However, the writing's a little weak doesn't seem to know where the story's going at times. Yet even with its problems, Alan Partridge is entertaining and delivers plenty of laughs.

  If you've followed my reviews for a long period of time, then you are aware of how big a Steve Coogan fan I really am. No surprise there, I mean the man is one of the more talented comedic actors in Britain. He might not be a great 'stand-up' comedian, but when you put him in a movie, then you're pretty much guaranteed more than your share of laughs. This movie is no different, even if there's a chunk of the film, before the climax, before Alan and Pat go on the road, that drags a little bit. This happens in a lot of comedies and I think it's perfectly fine that it happens, but I think it does, unfortunately, keep the film from reaching 4 stars. Though I will say that the climax itself, in particular the entirety of the scene at the pier, brought tears of laughter to my eyes. I, having followed a lot of Coogan's career, on films at least, was aware of this character's existence but I hadn't seen much of him outside of some videos on YouTube. It's hard to get a sense of how a character truly is when you watch a video taken out of context so, of course, I didn't really get much out of it. The good thing about this movie is that while it helps to have been familiar with the series and its characters, it's not necessary in order to enjoy the film and I definitely think that that's the hardest transition most series have when they try to do a full-length feature. Of course if you have a heavy-serialized show like Breaking Bad, or Arrested Development, both of which have long, overarching storylines that take place over the course of several seasons, then the enjoyment of the film would entirely depend on if you kept up with the show or not. It would be different in that case. In the case of something like this, where there aren't any overarching stories, then it's a definite plus that they didn't alienate people who weren't familiar with the show or the character. Steve Coogan kills it as this narcissistic asshole who's absolute desperate to be in the spotlight, by any means necessary. He sees the hostage situation as an opportunity to improve his own social standing. It doesn't matter who he steps on on the way up, just as long as he gets to his destination. That's the type of character Alan Partridge, you're gonna get no heroics from him, as it should be. The dialogue is excellent, quick-witted and smart, as was to be expected. And while Steve Coogan is definitely, and obviously, the highlight of the film...everyone in the supporting cast get their moment to shine. And, of course, the social commentary of the company bigwigs coming in and getting rid of the middle-class workers and bringing in someone younger to freshen up the brand isn't lost on me. It's a little obvious, you can see through it immediately, but I think it gets the job done. I think the comedy definitely makes it so that you don't notice it as much, and that's a good thing. This is the type of movie I'd probably watch more than once and still enjoy it as much as I did the first time, maybe even more so. It's not the greatest comedy you will ever see, but it is a very good film nonetheless. Witty and marvelously acted.

  It's absolutely hilarious. A tremendously enjoyable comedy that's loaded with energy and huge laughs. It the funniest movie of 2014. A flat-out, fall-out of your seat comedy. I couldn't help but enjoy myself i loved it. Non-stop laughs and fun from start to finish. Steve Coogan is a comic genius, he gives one of his funniest performances ever. Coogan is a riot, he has so much energy and love for what he does and gives it all in every way. A knockout comedy classic. Ron Burgundy can eat his heart out.
