Critic Reviews for Alexander Revisited: Final Cut
Like Alexander, Stone seems to have been too ambitious and overextended himself.
Far superior to the theatrical version. A dazzling epic. Stone should be praised for bringing Alexander to life and finally doing him justice.
Audience Reviews for Alexander Revisited: Final Cut
Oliver Stone's "Alexander Revisited" is a much better version then the theatrical version. I felt as if I got a sense of the great Macedonian King and his massive campaign of the known world. The voiceover is greatly cut, non-linear storytelling is more heightned, Alexander's relationships is more clearer and never before scenes is added. The commentary by Stone is greatly appreciated as is the documentary features, furthermore the look of the film looks great. I greatly disliked the theatrical version it is now this final version of "Alexander" Stone should have shown to audiences. "Alexander Revisited" is Stone's "Blade Runner The Third Cut".

The first, released in theatres, was less-than-wonderful, but still liked by myself and few others. The "Director's Cut," a shorter version released on DVD a few months later, was a bit better, but lacked a few scenes which gave the ending a real punch. Now, all the footage has been restored and the film, at a seemingly ridiculous 214 minutes, is much more engaging and brilliant. New scenes offer us more of the mysterious Asian lover, more blood and gore (giving the battle scenes, which were quite wonderful to begin with, an extra realistic punch) and more powerful acting. I loved this version, and it has been added to my collection. ***1/2 (out of ****) A-
