Movie Info

All This and World War II is a fascinating but singularly pointless "musical documentary". Virtually all the footage has been culled from the vaults of Fox Movietone News, and edited in a linear manner in order to visually trace the history of World War II. Complementing this priceless newsreel film is a relentless musical score, comprised of Beatles tunes (though not sung by the Fab Four). Evidently all this effort was expended to make some sort of antiwar statement.

Nostalgia often incurs when an item is kept from public consumption, and it is likely all wistful feelings for this film would disappear if it ever becomes available for mass consumption.

The most brilliantly reckless film I've ever seen. A triumph of audacity and bad taste.

Audience Reviews for All This and World War II

World War II stock footage + Beatles cover songs = Catastrophe. It's like one long, interminable ad for its own soundtrack album, which by all means is a must-own if you're a fan of Paul, George, John and Ringo, and don't mind their songwriting ruined by sappy overblown orchestral arrangements. "AT&WWII" is a completely idiotic concept that could only have been conceived in a haze of cocaine and opiates. How it got made is obvious enough (read: the same drugs responsible for its conception), and why it was buried deep in 20th Century Fox's salt mine is self-evident for anyone who's attempted to soldier through its impossibly long 88 minutes. AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID ... unless you're the type who slows down to gawk at gory multiple-car pileups on the freeway. If so, then by all means make haste to YouTube and have a bucket ready to receive any disgorged vomitus.

While the movie could have been much better If it had used the original songs, but theo nes they went with were pretty good. The Beatles Still remain one of the world's most influencial bands, and hopefully it will stay that way. But in the end this was a pretty good documentary.
