Am I reacting to the picture presented in front of me, or reacting to the picture that isn't? Maybe it's a little bit of both.

The wardrobe is as elegant and refined as to be expected from a period drama of this standard. If only the story hadn't been as [plodding], the characters so undefined, and the script so anachronistic.
October 3, 2019
Has a cluster of subversive elements begging to be teased under the surface of a superficial love story.
July 17, 2019
The rare case where a lesser, more workmanlike director might have executed a better film.
June 25, 2019
Weak and limp as a romantic thriller, problematic as a husband/wife narrative and wholly negligible as a Nazi-era spy piece, Allied wants so badly to capture older audiences, it puts its final credits in easy-to-read, oversized print.
March 22, 2019
The plot has potential, but Allied is never given the chance to develop into a riveting thriller because of its dull script and uneven execution.
November 3, 2018
As nice as Allied is to look at, the story falls flat and lacks the tension needed to keep the audience engaged for two hours.
August 30, 2018
As much the film prospers in its visual imagery, it fails with nearly everything else.

But that lack of chemistry undermines everything, while the last act reveal weakens the film's impact film still further, making it feel like a woman's tale frustratingly told from a man's perspective.
March 21, 2018
Despite the star power, glossy look and interesting premise, Allied feels like a missed opportunity from director Robert Zemeckis and screenwriter Steven Knight.
January 10, 2018
Insipid is almost too easy a word to describe Zemeckis' new movie.
December 27, 2017
I can't say I believed a minute of Allied, but from its captivating opening shot (Pitt parachuting into the desert) to its misguided sentimental epilogue (I won't say more), the well-crafted Allied is dressed for a success it never really achieves.
October 17, 2017
The film does have a modest, commercial watchability, but Steven Knight's screenplay never quite convinces, while Zemeckis seems to believe that with enough camels, vintage Citron cars and urgent wartime sex, he'll have a big hit on his hands.
October 13, 2017
Allied is a by the book, old-fashioned wartime romance flick. It's not bad, but it's not really good, either.
September 20, 2017
The finale won't have you reaching for your hankie as much as checking your watch.
August 22, 2017
You're much better off rewatching Inglourious Basterds.

We were always taught "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." Here endeth my review of "Allied."
March 15, 2017
Zemeckis has said in interviews that Hollywood doesn't make this kind of movie anymore. Too true. And there's an obvious reason why.
March 14, 2017
The film seem(s) top-heavy, action wise, and a bit awkward.
February 9, 2017
Two great leads can't overcome clunky dialogue and a story that overextends a healthy suspension of disbelief.
