You want to see how Russians view Chekhov? This is the movie to watch. I'm told this is the last Movie Mikhalkov made purely for the Russian audience - he went International after this. Also - the DVD has, as an extra, B&W footage of Olga Knipper talking about Chekhov. Come on!!! it's worth buying just for that alone!

Chekhov actors doing Chekhov. Beautiful, sad, funny, lyrical - all things Chekhov should be.

It was good story by Chehov, but why the hell adapt it? As a story, it was a good read from history of literature point of view; as a contemporary film feels out of it's times and too didactic (this is Michalkov, after all).
