Movie Info

Nobody likes real-estate agent Oren Little (Michael Douglas), and he prefers it that way. He's deliberately mean to anyone who crosses his path and wants nothing more than to sell one final house and retire. Oren's life turns upside-down when his estranged son drops off a granddaughter (Sterling Jerins) he didn't know existed. Oren has no idea how to take care of a child, so he pawns the girl off on his neighbor, Leah (Diane Keaton) -- but he learns how to open his heart eventually.

I like movies about growth, but it is hard to imagine a curmudgeon like Oren learning anything about life. But if you believe in fantasies, 'And So It Goes' is the movie for you.

From director Rob Reiner comes the lighthearted, off-beat comedy And So It Goes. The story follows a curmudgeonly real estate agent named Oren Little who's forced to take in his estranged granddaughter when his son is sent to prison. Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton are fairly good, but it's newcomer Sterling Jerins who really shines and gives the film its heart. Additionally, Reiner does a nice job at creating some touching character moments. However, the plot's rather trite and clichéd; following the usual stereotypes of an old man reforming is ways. And So It Goes is a bit of fun, but overall it a formulaic film that plays it safe.

Average. I watched it, and I found it okay to watch once, but definitely not something to re watch. Michael Douglas I have never been a fan of, and he's totally decrepit and kind of an ass here, so difficult to be cheering him on as a romantic hero. Diane Keaton is fine. She does seem to play the same character over and over, though. I didn't like a lot of the supporting characters. Those screaming little boys, honestly, I'm surprised it was the dog he shot at. The chain smoking old hag and the ex druggie son. I don't even get what that little plot was doing in the movie. The grand daughter was okay. I also didn't really buy that he was loaded, but he wanted to live in that tiny apartment with the screaming kids (ditto new baby - btw, the birth scene also did not belong and could have done without it. Seriously why?? The mother was barely a character and it added nothing to the story). and this after he "got" Diane. Ffs, use your money and buy a house! Hmmm... It was okay....as you can see, a few things annoyed me. An older audience might enjoy.

It won't win any awards but I thought this was just a nice film to watch to pass the time.
