Critic Reviews for Angels over Broadway

All Critics (5)

Featuring Rita Hayworth (before she became a star), this mildly amusing if verbose comedy is co-directed by Lee Garmes and Ben Hecht, better known as a writer (Hitchcock's Notorious).

What turned me off was that the downbeat tone never changed for me even as it piled on all its moral lessons.

Audience Reviews for Angels over Broadway

Minor B was Rita last lower rung entry before her ascension to the top of the Columbia and box office heap which started with her next film The Strawberry Blonde. It's unremarkable stuff and Rita seems disengaged in it but Thomas Mitchell and John Qualen give their usual fine performances.

Super Reviewer

Excellent drama with a superb cast. Thomas Mitchell stands out the most and does a great job in a supporting role. The cinematography is superb, Ben Hecht does an amazing job directing. A great classic.

**1/2 (out of four) Rita Hayworth is beautiful and Douglas Fairbanks Jr charming, in this interesting, but dull drama about an attempt to take the mob for some money to get a suicidal man off the hook.
