Beginning when his daughter Anna is 6 years old, director Nikita Mikhalkov secretly makes home movies of her. For twelve years, he films her, always asking the same five questions about what she loved, feared and desired. As Anna grows older, her answers become more mature and uncertain, reflecting the enormous upheaval in Russian society during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Archival footage of TV news programs and Mikhalkov's commentary help round out the story of Anna -- and of Russia.

See more 05/04/2009 very deep and very realistic! thanx to Mikhalkov for thic specific view on the history of our Russia! See more 03/20/2009 I saw this at the documentary festival in Amsterdam some years ago and just loved it. I'm so glad I was reminded about it. I'm going to order it straight-away! See it! See more 09/03/2008 What a movie! What an idea! To take a footage of a child asking it every year the same and watching how the answers change... Just great! See more 07/20/2008 I love personal documentaries like this that echo broader social themes. See more 02/20/2008 Beautiful story, that's totally real. Reaffirms the beauty of life, I suppose. Well worth watching, if only for the drastic amount of Russian history one gains from it. See more Read all reviews
