Anna has been employed to educate the king's 58 children. She knows very little of King Mongkut, apart from the fact that his people revere him as a god. She brings with her an East vs. West prejudice against the king, considering him to be uncivilized. Eventually, she realizes that her views are more than matched by the ruler's own preconceptions about the West and particularly this impertinent English woman.

Beautiful cinematography can't prevent Anna and the King from being boring and overly lengthy.

Anna and the King is a remarkable achievement for Andy Tennant... He has made full use of the magnificent sets, costumes and spectacle while never neglecting the human relationship that makes the Anna-King saga so enduring. Go to Full Review

Perhaps the true problem with Anna and the King is its medium; this probably should have been a TV miniseries... It has all the problems of an overlong art piece, but it still feels incomplete. Go to Full Review

Filmed in Malaysia, with an elaborate reconstruction of the original royal palace, it's gorgeous enough to make you want to visit your travel agent right after closing credits. Go to Full Review

thiago s @Thiagostone Sep 5, 2025 Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom See more Lil G @RT89652683 Nov 6, 2024 I watched this when i was a kid. Despite not being sure about its historical accuracy, it displays international relationships as they were at the time between West and East Great acting, and many themes of love, life, and death are explored with subtlety. The film is beautifully shot. The musical score is also beautiful and overall is an enjoyable watch. See more Read all reviews
