Paul Rudd brings a boyish charm to any role he plays. His "Aw, shucks!" demeanor is perfect for the film's version of Scott Lang, though this iteration of the character is also trapped in a story that can't decide what it wants him to be.

So Ant-Man is an admirable but flawed attempt to expand the Marvel canon. The script is far from Marvel's best and, considering the film aims to be light hearted, lacks the laughs that bolster so many of these films.

Ant-Man just isn't that great an idea and the film exists only because the Marvel machine is working so remorselessly through its massive back catalogue.
