Steve J @SuperFun Feb 12 I started watching this and thought it was a satirical comedy. And I kept thinking this is just a bad rip off of Spinal Tap. But then I wondered how they got footage of them in the past that was so realistic. Then I slowly started thinking, Wait a minute, this can't be real can it? And slowly the horrifying truth became clear. It was real. I couldn't finish watching it. Too depressing. I give those guys their dues for never giving up. But it's not that didn't become big stars because they were ripped off by other artists, the timing was wrong, or bad luck. They just simply weren't very good. Especially at song writing. They a like a B Movie of music. Campy. I mean the playing a guitar with a dildo? If they leaned into their zaniness and were more tongue in cheek and funny (like Steel Panther) it could work. See more Tim S @TimBSanders Aug 6 When Canadian school friends Steve Lips Kudlow and Rob Reiner formed a rock band claiming they would Rock forever they definitely meant it. “Anvil:The Story of Anvil” follows the highs and lows of their band some twenty six years after the release of their influential Anvil 1982 heavy metal album “Metal on Metal”   This documentary has so much drama, fun, joy and emotion as it delivers an inside view  into one of the greatest heavy metal bands that never were. “Anvil:The Story of Anvil” shows the dynamics of the band , those who support them and the influence they had on so many artists and bands including Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax. Despite still being revered by their peers Anvil have never reached the heights of those they inspired.  Without successful albums and successful tours unfortunately Anvil failed to achieve the fame or money they deserved.  This warts and all documentary focuses on the drive and desire of the two main artistic creatives behind Anvil who crave ( and deserve ) adulation and reward for all their determination and hard work. However “sometimes it’s just about being in the right place at the right time”.  This is Spinal Tap but for real. I was aware of Anvil around the time when the movie was released and read some of the press reviews, although I'd not heard of them up till that point. Fast forward 14 year, and I've finally gotten a chance to watch it. Afterwards, mu initial thoughts were mostly to do with questioning just how genuine everything was. Some of the scenes (the fight with the owner of the bar in Prague, when he told them they weren't getting paid and the bust-up between Steve and Robb at the recording studio) came across as a bit too contrived. Even the decision by Chris Tsangarides to produce a new album, after being out of contact for how long? I'm not suggesting that the two guys weren't struggling to get the show back on the road, but towards the end, everything seemed to fall into place a little too quickly for my liking, especially walking on stage to find themselves being greeted by thousands of screaming fans at the show in Tokyo.
